A great coming-of-age film, a flashback highlighting the relationship between a young man and his mentor. Their days start in the projection booth of a neighborhood Sicilian theater, Cinema Paradiso. A five or six-year-old Salvator, adorably nicknamed Toto, begs old Alfredo to show him how to project films.
Toto becomes the projectionist at the theater as a teenager, falls in love, and seeks advice from Alfredo. He eventually leaves town to pursue his dreams, only coming back to the small town later for Alfredo’s funeral.
A film about love and conquering nostalgia. A film about a true love for film. Touching. Beautiful. Simple, yet powerful.
The music in this film is endlessly moving.
